The Science of Prevention
The Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), a public health model developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), designed to help communities build prevention capacity and infrastructure to implement and sustain effective prevention policies, practices, and programs. The SPF is a community-based approach to substance abuse prevention, implementing a data-driven, five-step process to promote youth development, reduce risk-taking behaviors, build assets and resilience, and prevent problem behaviors across the life span.
To achieve effective and lasting individual and community-level change, our work employs CADCA's Seven Strategies for Community Change.

The six CSAP strategies, developed by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), are a framework for substance abuse prevention activities.
These strategies include information dissemination, education, alternatives, community-based processes, environmental strategies, and problem identification and referral. The TTASC (Prevention Training & Technical Assistance Service Center) utilizes these strategies in its prevention programs.
Information Dissemination:
Providing information about substance use and its consequences to individuals and communities.
Education: Offering structured educational programs to teach individuals about substance use prevention and promote healthy choices.
Community-Based Processes: Engaging communities in developing and implementing prevention strategies that are tailored to their specific needs and priorities.
Alternative Activities: Providing opportunities for healthy and engaging activities as alternatives to substance use.
Strengthening Communities: Building the capacity of communities to address substance use issues and promote positive norms
Promoting Positive Values: Fostering positive attitudes and behaviors related to substance use and healthy lifestyles.
